Ten Home Décor Items that Combine Taste with
Functionality
Here are 10 organizational tips that will help organize your
home. You can make your home look neat while still combining
taste and functionality.
1. Baskets – If you go to any home chances
are you’ll come across a basket or two throughout the house.
That’s because baskets are not only decorative but serve as an
organizational tool also. You can use them for items such as
toys, magazines, makeup, etc; whatever fits your
personality.
2. Shoe organizers – This should be a
staple in every families home! It gets old pretty quick
tripping over shoes as you come into the house where they are
so often haphazardly left as they are thrown off. And of course
there’s also the challenge of not being able to find the other
shoe, generally as you are running behind and need to make a
mad dash out the door. The answer to these problems is simple –
a shoe organizer. There are many different options available
from shoe racks that hang over the back of a door to ones that
fit in the bottom of a closet. It’s all about personal
preference and what will work best for you and your family.
3. Closet organizers – These are becoming
big business. In fact there are businesses out there today that
are dedicated to helping you create the perfect closet
organizer for your home! You can have them as simple or as
complex as you want. They can be plastic or metal, have
shelves, drawers, or places to hang clothes; it just depends on
what you need.
4. Desk organizers – Again this is another
item that should be a staple in any home that has a home office
or homework area! You can purchase items such as paper clip
holders, pencil and pen holders, etc that will help keep the
area organized.
5. Clothes trees – These are pretty ‘old
fashioned’ and if you are looking to add a touch of old fashion
flair to a room a clothes tree is a perfect option. If you
aren’t looking for the old fashioned touch you can also find
clothes tree available in modern designs. The perfect place to
use them is in a corner by the entry way for coats. Another
option would be to place on in a child’s bedroom for them to
hang their PJ’s, robes or even a towel after a bath on.
6. Furniture with drawers – If your house
lacks space, and honestly what home doesn’t, furniture with
drawers is a great addition. Furniture items such as couches or
beds that have drawers built right into them are wonderful for
storing items such as toys or even seasonal clothes.
7. Video and audio storage – These come in
a variety of options and depending on your preference you can
purchase stand alone pieces or ones that can be incorporated
into your media center.
8. Jewelry boxes – These are not only great
for organizing and keeping your precious pieces but they are
also a beautiful piece of work. A jewelry box is often times
almost as beautiful to look at as the jewelry itself! They look
great on any dresser.
9. Carts with wheels – These portable
storage units come in handy. They can be used for any area of
the house and what’s even greater is that they can be ‘tucked’
away in a closet or corner if you aren’t going to need it all
the time.
10. Caddies – Just like the carts with
wheels, caddies are a great way to carry items that might need
to go from room to room. You can purchase buckets or baskets to
use as a caddy. Other options would be a fabric caddy with
pockets on them.
One great thing about decorating is that no matter what your
style is you’ll always be able to find accents that fit your
taste. You’ll not only be adding style to your house you’ll
also be adding functionality too.
