Donate Old or No Longer Used Items to Help
Keep Things in Order
If you are in the process of cleaning out and reorganizing
the house you’ll probably come across items that you don’t use
anymore or even items that have never been taken out of the
original packing such as gifts that were given to you. The best
thing to do with these items is get rid of them. Chances are if
you haven’t taken something out of its original packing by now,
you’ll never get around to using it. Local charities are always
happy to take items that are in good shape off your hands!
Another plus to donating to your local charities is that you
can take this as a tax write off.
You could also check with your local shelter like the local
women’s shelter and see if they accept donations. More than
likely if you have used clothes, toys or books that are still
in good shape they would be more than happy to take these
items. Often times the families in this type of shelter are
literally there with the clothes on their backs and that’s it.
So any item like a book, toy, etc can be a comfort to them.
There are also charities out there that will even come to
your house to pick up your donations. Check locally to see if
you have a charity like Purple Heart and Vietnam Vets or a
group like Easter Seals because these are organizations that
will often come to you and pick up your donations.
Many people don’t think of checking with their local
hospital if they have items to give away such as books. Your
local hospital might be more than happy to accept a donation of
books especially children’s books. It only takes a second to
make a phone call to find out.
After you’ve donated the items you don’t use it will be
easier for you to reorganize what items are left. Because we
tend to accumulate things quickly you might want to consider
making a schedule of going through items every couple of
months!
