Organizing the Master Bathroom

The master bathroom is generally invaded by a woman’s products. You’ll find all her hair care products, makeup, perfume, etc. Now that men are being introduced to all these new products for men, they are catching up which leaves the bathroom in a cluttered and de-organized state.

One of the easiest ways to start de-cluttering your master bathroom is to go through your makeup. Many people don’t realize that makeup has an expiration date and shouldn’t be used beyond its ‘life expectancy’. Sort through the makeup and pitch anything that has expired. If you find yourself questioning something go ahead and pitch that too. Sometimes woman will have more than one item; say for example a favorite lipstick. No problem, just keep one in the bathroom and store the other in a box that is in the closet and out of the way. When you’ve used a product up, simply replace it.

Let’s talk about the counter space, or lack there of in a lot of instances. Sometimes there isn’t much counter space in the master bathroom and for whatever reason it seems to be a clutter magnet. To organize and de-clutter this area simply purchase some clear canisters or decorative baskets to store things such as q-tips, cotton balls, etc. If you use clear canisters it will be easier to see when things are getting low and need to be restocked.

Towels and robes can easily become an area of clutter. If you don’t have hooks on the back of the bathroom door or on the wall, they are fairly easy to install and a staple for every bathroom. This will help keep towels and robes off the floor and out of the way. Another thing to remember is it’s easiest if you only keep one set of towels and washcloths (his and hers) in the bathroom. Keep spares in a nearby closet in the hallway.

Don’t neglect the medicine cabinet. Just like makeup, medicine also has expiration dates that you need to pay attention to. Go through the medicine cabinet looking at expiration dates and pitching anything that has expired or anything you find yourself questioning. If you use certain medicines on a regular basis make sure to replace them.

What about all those shaving supplies such as razors, lotions, etc? There are a couple different options here. Now days you can find racks that hang over the shower head or suction cup to the shower walls. These work well and so would a decorative container or waterproof basket.

Then there is the area of cleaning supplies. You have a couple options here as well. Try using a basket or bucket and placing your products in there and storing under the sink or in a nearby closet. When you store all your cleaning products as well as cleaning supplies like sponges, rubber gloves, paper towel, etc nearby it not only keeps things neater it also saves you time when it comes to cleaning day.
